special open enrollment
for eligible texas employees
Special open enrollment for 2020 benefits is December 9 through December 20, 2019.
In an agreement publicly announced in early November, effective January 1, 2020, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic will become a network provider under Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS). This change will affect the 2020 provider network for the following Chevron medical plan choices:
- Chevron Medical PPO Plan
- Chevron High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)
- Chevron High Deductible Health Plan Basic (HDHP Basic)
- Chevron Medical HMO – HMO Blue Texas*
The addition of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is a significant provider network change for Texas employees. We’re aware that a plan’s provider network is a key factor in the medical coverage decisions you make during open enrollment. Due to this new development, Chevron will offer a special open enrollment opportunity for eligible Texas-based employees from December 9 through December 20, 2019, for you to revise your 2020 medical coverage elections, if desired.
* As a reminder, Chevron Medical HMO Plans are offered based on your zip code and – in certain situations – your employment type. Not everyone will have a Medical HMO option.
This is a one-time offer, and the elections allowed during the special open enrollment period - December 9 through December 20, 2019 - are limited to only the following:
- Start, stop or change to another Chevron medical plan choice. You can add medical coverage even if you have previously elected to waive Chevron medical coverage.
- Add, drop or update eligible dependents covered under your Chevron medical plan coverage.
- Start, stop or change your enrollment in the Health Care Spending Account (HCSA), a flexible spending account plan.
- Start or stop your enrollment in the BenefitWallet Health Savings Account (HSA).
If you do not want to change your Chevron medical, HCSA or HSA elections for 2020, no action is required. Your previous medical, HCSA or HSA elections (if any) will remain in force effective January 1, 2020. If you need to review your 2020 coverage, login to the BenefitConnect website and choose View my 2020 coverage from the home screen.
If you enroll a new dependent in your medical plan during this special open enrollment, you have 60 days to provide documents to verify that your dependents are eligible to participate. Get more information.
If you qualified for the 2020 Wellness Credit by the October 25, 2019 deadline and you decide to change your Chevron medical coverage during this special open enrollment period, your Wellness Credit will automatically be applied to the medical plan you choose effective January 1, 2020.
If you enroll in the BenefitWallet health savings account (HSA) during this special open enrollment opportunity, you will qualify for the 2020 company contribution as long as you meet all the other eligibility requirements to receive the company contribution.
If you make elections during the special open enrollment, December 9 through December 20, 2019, your coverage – including the addition of Kelsey-Seybold Clinics to the network – will take effect January 1, 2020. Late enrollment is not permitted. If you miss the December 20, 2019 deadline, your previous medical and/or HCSA and HSA elections (if any) will remain in force. You must wait until the next open enrollment for 2021 benefits or within 31 days of a qualifying life event to change these benefits.
Chevron payroll will process your paycheck during this special open enrollment period. This pay will include the first premium deductions for 2020 benefit coverage. We strongly encourage you to make your desired elections as early as possible during this special open enrollment period so that these first premium deductions will include any coverage adjustments. If you make elections after the payroll cutoff, it’s okay. You’ll still have the coverage you elect effective January 1, 2020. Just know that your revised associated premium deductions will be included on the next subsequent payroll.
