You must call the Disability Management Program via the HR Service Center at 1-888-825-5247 if you are absent from work for more than five days due to illness or injury or are off work for a reason that's covered under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) or related state leave law.

eligibility

If you're an eligible employee, you can request a leave without pay for any of the following reasons:

  • Full-time political activities. 
  • To campaign for public office. 
  • To perform the full-time duties of a public office to which you're elected or appointed.

length of absence

You can take leave for the period of time required to perform your public duties or, if you're elected or nominated to public office, up to the normal term of office. You'll be put on a Personal Leave Without Pay, which must be renewed, with management approval, every 12 months.

how to request leave

You should contact your supervisor as soon as possible if you are considering a leave or if you need to take a leave.

You will need to complete a form to request a leave under this policy. Download Form F-12 Request for Leave of Absence Without Pay, and follow the instructions on the form to complete your request.
