Learn about Chevron’s medical coverage and how it works in this overview.
All plans share several important features:
- Chevron shares the monthly premium cost with you
- Coverage for preventive care services
- Medical plans include access to medical, prescription drug, basic vision, and behavioral health services.
- Dental plans include coverage for diagnostic, basic restorative, major dental care and orthodontia.
The plans are different in three key areas:
- Provider choice
- Your out-of-pocket expenses
- Your options to save for health care
If you enroll in health benefits, you also may enroll your eligible dependents for coverage under the same medical, dental, vision and certain other health benefit plans. Eligible dependents include your spouse or domestic partner and eligible children.
If you enroll dependents in health coverage, you will be required to follow our dependent verification process. This means you must submit certain documentation that verifies your dependents are eligible for coverage.
Plan ahead:
These plans prioritize provider choice. With a PPO plan, you can visit any provider, network or out-of-network. You’ll save money when you use a network provider, but you still have the choice to go out-of-network for your care at any time. In exchange for this choice, these plans usually have higher deductibles (the amount you pay before your insurance starts covering costs).

Chevron Dental PPO Plan
These plans prioritize how you spend health care dollars. HMO plans typically have lower deductibles and copayments which can lower your costs at the time of service. However, you must use a network provider for services to be covered (except for emergencies). You’ll choose a primary care provider who manages and coordinates your care needs, including referrals to specialists. The enrollment system will display the HMOs available to you (if any) based on your zip code.

All Chevron medical plans offer access to one of two tax-advantaged health accounts — either the Health Care Flexible Spending Account (Health FSA) or a health savings account (HSA).
- These accounts help you save and pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs.
- The account you can use varies based on the medical plan you choose.
- You can’t be enrolled in both accounts at the same time.
A flexible spending account designed for short-term spending. The account only lasts for the calendar year and does not roll over. Any unspent and unclaimed money after the annual deadline will be forfeited.
Medical plans that are compatible with an FSA:
- Medical PPO Plan
- Medical HMO Plan
- You cannot be enrolled in a high-deductible health plan
Account highlights include:
- You contribute with pre-tax payroll contributions, up to annual limits
- Chevron does not contribute to this account
- You cannot change your contributions until open enrollment (except for life events)
- You can spend the total amount you elect to contribute for the year as soon as your plan starts
- You cannot invest your account balance
- This account does not go with you if you leave Chevron (COBRA coverage may be available for a limited time)
A health savings account is designed for long-term savings. There is no pressure to use the money in your account right away because it rolls over each year. You can pay for an expense out-of-pocket and keep the money in your account for the future, or you can use the money in your account now. The choice is yours.
Medical plans that are compatible with an HSA:
- High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)
- High Deductible Health Plan Basic (HDHP Basic)
Account highlights include:
- You contribute with pre-tax payroll contributions, up to annual IRS limits
- Chevron contributes to this account; the amount depends on your coverage tier
- You can stop, start or change your contributions at any time
- You can only spend what’s in your account, just like a bank account
- You can invest all, some or none of your account balance
- This account is yours and goes with you when you leave Chevron, even into retirement
You must elect the Fidelity HSA during enrollment to set up payroll contributions and to receive the Chevron company contribution.
- If you already have a Fidelity HSA, you can elect to automatically merge your account when you enroll.
- If you have an HSA through other custodians, you can roll over your balances to the Fidelity HSA after your account has been opened.
The account you prefer may factor in your medical plan decision. These resources provide more information about both accounts to help you decide which account is right for you.
